Yes, still on the air after all these years. I could watch that show for hours and never get bored. I just wish they'd cut the part when do that scripted banter in the squad car about why so-and-so decided to become a police officer.
There are three things that must happen in every COPS episode:
- Domestic disturbance in a trailer park or tenement. Man always shirtless and intoxicated. Woman always hysterical and disheveled. Always dirty dishes in sink with clothes, dirty ash trays and garbage strewn about the house. Camera will sometimes pan in on a rat scuttling through the trash.
- Somebody is always sure to say "I didn't do nuttin", "Them drugs ain't mine" or "Those ain't my pants!"
- Obligatory chase scene which usually ends with driver bailing out, leading to a foot chase in which overweight cops scale fences and trample through underbrush. Driver then invariably claims to not have been driving. "Car? What car? That ain't mah car!"
Hey, that formula has worked for 25 years! Why stop now?

Do you ever watch “Bait Car”, I think it takes place in a few places but mostly I’ve seen Atlanta. The cops have these special cars, very nice, and they leave them places with the keys in them. Invariably somebody comes along and takes the car (I’m not sure what these people are thinking, ever) and then the cops can stop the car and lock the doors by remote control.
Some of the theives are a little wise to their ways now, and they’ll drive the car with the door open a little, so they don’t get locked in.
It can be be pretty amusing.

Here in Maine, they air “COPS Re-loaded” every weekday for an hour at 5 PM on the CW.
COPS Reloaded is shortened, slightly edited versions of what originally aired on COPS. The banter you mentioned about why each deputy of police officer decided to become a cop has been edited out of each segment.
