Saw Mark Knopfler at Chastain Park just a few years ago. The crowd was great and was waiting all night for him to play it.
He never did. He’s apparently gone PC. It was very disappointing.
I don't remember them playing the song, though.
To be honest it was not the best concert I've been to.
It was more lasers and special effects than music.
And if he played the song as written, it wouldn't have been a big deal anyway.
1992 was not that far removed from 1985.
It IS a "big deal" in 2014, unfortunately.
I'm surprised about how many liberal "artists" don't defend their work, no matter how politically incorrect it may seem to modern ears.
Lou Reed is dead, but I wonder if he'd re-write "Take a Walk on the Wild Side".
