This sure seems like one of those "only in Philly" moments, when a man finds himself in between some rock salt and a hard place.
According to police, last Thursday Daron Stinson, 21, robbed a 52-year-old man who was shoveling his sidewalk on Diamond Street near Sedgley Avenue in North Philadelphia around 3 p.m. He didn't hold him up for his wallet or his watch, he held him up for his rock salt, police said.
Stinson allegedly approached his victim while in a pick-up truck with another man. He repeatedly asked the victim how much he wanted for his rock salt and then he pulled out what the victim believed to be a black handgun and took the rock salt from the man, police said. Stinson then threw the rock salt in the bed of the truck and the pair sped off, police said.
[snip]
Stingy Stinson and his unidentified cohort allegedly recorded both of these incidents like the rocket scientists they are and uploaded them to Instagram, police said.

Plow drivers suspected of stealing salt (Indy)

Indianapolis Metro Police Detectives are searching for at least two snow plow drivers who stole 60 bags of Mortons salt from a south side Kroger store.
The theft happened around 3:30am Saturday at the Kroger in the 4200 block of South East Street. The store, which is normally open 24 hours, was temporarily closed at the time. The stacks of salt are stored outside the front doors, with pricing information clearly visible. Normal practice is for a customer to pay for the salt bags inside, then pick it up when they leave the store.
They should lock it up if theyre closing the store down, said Kroger shopper Sarah Hibdon. They should have it locked up inside the doors, then.
Security video at the store showed two pickup trucks, one red and one white, with snow plows fitted on them, being loaded up with the salt. A police report did not specifiy how many people were involved in loading the salt onto the two plow trucks.
Another victim of globull climate change!
The stuff is worth it’s weight in gold.
I got a hot tip of a delivery at a local Tru Valu and got there just in time to buy the last 2 bags.
