Having read the books and seen the BBC version, where-in all the characters are in the Conservative Party (same party the author was a member of), I’ll say it’s not really “about” any party. They’re all dems in the US show but most of the major events and story beats, not to mention the conniving nature of the main character, are from the original source. In all 3 versions F.U. (wish they’d actually call him that in the US version) is Whip because it’s the Whip’s job to have all the dirt (and help hide it) and keep the party members in line which is the source of his power.

Yes! but this is all about democrats. Democrat House, democrat attorney general, democrat president. They do not hide this fact.
