Companies should not mix politics with business.
This is why I don’t buy Starbucks and why I will never own a Crapple computer.
I guess I see the Starbucks issue and Coke as totally different. I do not go to Starbucks, but I liked the Coke commercial. Many of the comments here and on other sites are tinged with the hint of prejudice or even hatred toward immigrants. I too want immigrants to come to this country and become culturally “American”. I have seen many older immigrants struggle to learn English, but I see their children becoming the Valedictorians of my hometown’s school. Believe me...they know English and Math and Science. My husband is bilingual, Spanish and English. His parent’s were both bilingual. An uninformed person would assume that he or his parents were immigrants to the United States. They were not. His grandparents were not. His great-grandparents were not (Except for the one who came from England). Just because someone speaks Spanish, or Vietnamese, or Hindi does not mean that they are a recent immigrant. It may mean that they celebrate their mixed heritage. My husband’s father proudly served in the Pacific in World War II and was permanently disabled. My husband is a proud American. I am tired of people thinking that he is less of an American because he is Hispanic and they assume he is an immigrant. Just because someone can and does speak several languages does not make them anti-American. The song speaks to the diversity of the United States of America.
