So that is how they get away with it? I am not talking about “questionable refrigeration”. I mean zero refrigeration both here and in Europe, where I would see pallet loads of it.

Yes, UHT milk needs no refrigeration. It does have a slight cooked taste, which some dislike. Canned evaporated milk was popular in the US in the 1920’s and 1930’s before most people had refrigerators.
