Sorry, I didn’t read the linked story. Are they talking total bottles, or per capita? I’d be very surprised if the Chinese drink the most per capita.

China has surpassed France and Italy to become the biggest consumer of red wine in the world. Not very interesting. China is huge.
Interesting would be that China's per capita red wine consumption has exceeded that of France and Italy.
