Everything in moderation...

Tobacco companies used to be HUGE republican donors (one of their biggest)

How much do you want to bet that if they were huge DEM donors we would all be hearing about the healthful benefits of “bathing your lungs in cleansing smoke”

Improved concentration and alertness, at the same time as, curiously, relaxation.
Reduced fatigue
Weight loss

On the whole nicotine is a very good drug, as far as its psychoactive effects go. It does improve mental performance and adds to productivity, much like coffee and tea seem to do, or more so.

The downside is, statistically, reduced lifespan. But the increased mortality, statistically, is heavily weighted to past the end of a persons useful life. So economically speaking it is very helpful. It improves productivity for the young and middle aged, and helps get rid of the unproductive retirees.

Overall it seems to reduce lifetime medical costs. Most private insurers don’t like it because there are some negative health effects for people in their 50’s-60’s or so, who are covered by private insurance, but for older cohorts smoking reduces burdens on Medicare and of course on Social Security.

"COPD," also known as SAFE (stupid acronym for emphesema). Chronic bronchitis is thrown in as an excuse.

According to this article from the Telegraph, this man was the 5th "Marlboro Man" to die from cancer.

The first man died in 1987 from emphysema at 81. The second man died in 1992 at 51. The third man died in 1995 at 73. The fourth man died in 1999 at 69.

Little mispelling there and correction here.

I'm a non-smoker, do you think they would hire me to be a spokesman? That might reduce their turnover somewhat. I can say I smoke for the purposes of the ads.

I'm pretty rugged looking.

How many Marlboro men were there?

I read one died of lung cancer years, another died when his horse fell and trapped him in a water tank and he drowned.

Is this three?

I can learn. I’ll even go to the drugstore and get a hat and a pair of boots.

Current Life Expectancy is 75.9 years, according to the SSA

True, but to account for killings, car accidents and other early causes of death, it is instructive to look at the actuary data for natural deaths. For example, for people that reach 65, the life expectancy is 84.

Can't think of many benefits of smoking.....

I can't think of any benefits of not smoking. You should see the fat chicks scatter out of the candy aisle when you walk in there with an UNLIT cigarette in your mouth.

I use that to clear them out of the bakery section as well.

Have you hand rolled ceegars? If so, how do they taste? Hell, how do the ciggies taste compared to manufactured?

I've been doing it for a while. I'll have about 150 to put out into the main garden after the last freeze.

I don't roll cigars. I have investigated importing cute help from Havana to do that, but it's cost prohibitive.

The cigarettes taste much better than the manufactured.

I expect as much for the taste. Much like using ground coffee versus grind your own. Tabacky is a great prepper product. Can one buy seeds?

Yep. They can be found on-line. Curing the tobacco is something of a chore, and requires some practice and skill to get the product you want.

This one is growing out of season, since a seed wound up in my fall potting soil, and I let it live.

Obviously, I left it in a pot, and am letting it hang out inside. It has made friends with the cat.
