From the "free side" of Weatherbell, Joe gives his look at what is ahead into February. It looks brutal, and some of it is headed west. Even Texas gets snow!

Ping for the weather.
I am recovering from a migraine, my second this month, so I will not be monitoring the thread. But leave a message if you want on or off the ping list.
Thanks everybody.
Add me to weather ping please.
Place hold for later watch
Good health to you.
Thanks for the ping. Interesting report. I hope February is not like January, however it is reminding me of the winter of 1977 in Pittsburgh. BTTT.
Can you add me to your ping list Excellence?
Joe is such a great twitter follow as well. He has models predicting temps as low as -30 in Chicago. Crazy stuff.
Can you lead me to his Twitter?
I couldn’t find it via a quick search, thanks!
Thanks, I saw that one, saw all the wrestling posts, and figured it was somebody else.
Reading farther down I can see the weather stuff.
THANKS!

Joe wrestled at Penn State. He lives nearby in Boalsburg and obviously has a keen interest in the sport and PSU’s incredible success in it (just like their success in weather forecasting).
I wish the WeatherBell site was a bit less costly to subscribe. It’s really good, but I’m not ready to pay $20 bucks a month.

For a more composed and linear short term or long term forecast,...
We are headed into February and cold and snow is thereby predicted.
Joe Bastardi > Joel Myers (AccuWeather).
I go back to watching Joel on “Weather World” on PBS in the 70’s.
While we all laugh at Mann, PSU is still the best meteorological school in the country. I’ve lost faith/trust in Myers though and have gained respect for Joe Bastardi over the years. I’m sure I’m not the only PSU Alum or weather aficionado that feels the same way.
With the outstanding exception of one Michael E Mann!
His weather forecasting abilities might be great, but the presentation could have been delivered in more chronological order and with fewer creative figures of speech.
Joe is still in start up mode - trying to run a successful business. Give it time.
He obviously doesn’t have the resources that AccuWeather has. He does know the business model like the back of his hand though.
As for AccuWeather, I used the NOAA, Weather Underground and others before. Accuweather appears to work better for my area on the Rockies. Over the past few years, the others tended to predict unrealistically high temperatures and low winds to the extent that they might be kowtowing to tourism interests.
I still plan to properly mount transducers for a one-wire station here when time allows. My place is in one of the colder, windier spots in the area. Most of the other stations within 50 miles or so are among trees on south- or east-facing, sheltered sides of peaks (bad tech.), and the thermometers are improperly housed (dark, overly sealed coverings that collect heat at over 9,000 feet from sunlight). I don’t do meteorology, but I do good technical work.
