Over the years, I've read stories of adults sobbing and literally rending their clothing over a college football game. It's really quite bizarre and I would like to have it explained to me - in laymen's terms.
I went to Bama, and I cannot explain the psychosis. The nuttiness starts early on. Everybody follows these players from the time they start playing at 4 or 5 years of age. It is . . . fascinating and disturbing.

Their lives are crappy. I enjoy watching sports, but it’s just a game. The worst NCAA fans are the ones that didn’t even go to the University.
Actually, pretty simple. They want to live vicariously by associating with a winner. As others have observed, the majority of the worst afflicted with this behavior ...
1. Never attended the university.
2. Don't have any kids at the university.
3. Don't personally know anyone on the team.
4. And probably rarely travel outside their own state.
During my college days in Columbus Ohio, Football was like the state religion, and Woody Hayes was the ArchBishop.
