Can somebody explain to me why so many people get emotionally invested in college football? I can see to a point being a rabid fan of an NFL team but college football? It's just kids looking to make the pros! You see the players for 2 or maybe 3 years and then they graduate and move on.

Over the years, I've read stories of adults sobbing and literally rending their clothing over a college football game. It's really quite bizarre and I would like to have it explained to me - in laymen's terms.

I went to Bama, and I cannot explain the psychosis. The nuttiness starts early on. Everybody follows these players from the time they start playing at 4 or 5 years of age. It is . . . fascinating and disturbing.

It’s B.U. hockey in my family, not The Boston Bruins.

Who knows the reason, other than loyalty.

Their lives are crappy. I enjoy watching sports, but it’s just a game. The worst NCAA fans are the ones that didn’t even go to the University.

Actually, pretty simple. They want to live vicariously by associating with a winner. As others have observed, the majority of the worst afflicted with this behavior ...

1. Never attended the university.
2. Don't have any kids at the university.
3. Don't personally know anyone on the team.
4. And probably rarely travel outside their own state.

During my college days in Columbus Ohio, Football was like the state religion, and Woody Hayes was the ArchBishop.
