Stalinist times, friends. Living or dead, you can be made to disappear.
Is it Stalinism when people in Russia rename Leningrad as Saint Petersburg?
Or when people in Germany rename Karl Marx Stadt as Chemnitz?
The people who attend the school, and the people whose taxes finance the school, have every right to name the school after historical figures that they like.
They are not denying the fact that Forrest existed. They are denying that Forrest was a person they think worthy of honor or respect to the extent of naming a school after him.
If the people who originally named the school after him had stayed in the area, if they had peopled the school with their children, if they had maintained their high regard for Forrest over that period of time, then there would be no desire to change the name.
