I saw the first one after it left the theaters (Netflix) but only because I have always been interested in what the state of the art is in CGI.

I won’t watch the next ones.

No one will watch the blue-green cat monkeys’ revenge. The thing did not wear well.

I only want to see one sequel -- in which the humans come back, kick butt and take all the Unobtanium they need to save humanity.

I'll second that. I'm a bit of a movie buff and never root for the bad guys in a film - except in Avatar.

The protagonists (Jake Sully and his buddies and the blue people) were so unsympathetic and annoying that I just wanted them gone.

I'm still amazed that this turd of a movie made so much money.

Three sequels to Pocahontas? Will that bring us to the American Revolution or the Civil War?

[ Yeah, me too. Avatar was amazing as a technical product but annoying as a preachy, pagan, environmentalist wacko propaganda piece. ]

It was nothing but propaganda for the whole “Noble Savage” myth.

Truth is in any stone age environment there proportion of “Noble savage” to “Regular Savage” is quite low...

The movie contains one important lesson for everyone: wipe out the indiginous BEFORE taking their unobtanium.

But I was wondering if there was going to be a sequel. I liked the movie but when you look hard, it’s almost a comical parody of environmentalists. All the sterotypes are there: the military type that hates science, loves to shoot things. The greed corporation willing to kill people for the bottom line and doesn’t care about the environmnet. And the trees: the trees were actual conscious beings. Their god was even a tree who could talk and control nature.

Hmmm, not a better case could be made for “Shovel and Shut Up” than Avatar...

My theory on Avatar is that the blue cat people actually came from another world in a giant slower than light speed ship, the giant structures around the “world tree” seem to imply a large colony ship that landed there and maybe the cat people either adapted to the world or they genetically modified the native life forms into them or some damn thing,.... Which to the original life forms is WORSE than just strip mining a small area of the planet like the humans wanted to do in terms of preserving genetic diversity....

"the giant structures around the “world tree” seem to imply a large colony ship that landed there"

Interesting, and I'm one to always pick holes in movie plots. Notice how all the animal life on Pandora were 6-limbed, but the giant blue people only had 4? They also had 4 fingers. And the "floating mountains"...ridiculous. Supposedly the mountains were laced with unobtanium which acts like a monopole, but any magnetic field strong enough to do that would rip the iron right out of a person's blood.

Cameron's SF isn't usually over-the-top, but the oneness with nature theme going on in Avatar is just silly. The ultimate tree-hugger movie it seems. Full of idealistic nonsense.

By the way, concerning picking holes in movie plots, compare Stars Wars The Empire Strikes Back to Return of the Jedi. First, Yoda tells Skywalker that he must finish his training before facing Vader. He refuses and gets his arm cut off. Returning to Yoda in the next movie, Yoda tells him he doesn't need more training, and that he must face Vader. "Excuse me Yoda, what do you think I just did? Look--no arm!".
