I remember when Steve Spurrier first began coaching at Florida. He began to go for it far more than anyone else that I know of.

I know when I am pulling for a team, I am usually relieved when their opposition punts. In other words if it is close at all, my intuition nearly always believes it is best to go for it, assuming it is not too far and a few other exceptions.

Belicheck is remembered for failing to make the first down against the Colts in 2009, but he is way more successful on 4th down than he is not. Or so it seems whenever I watch the Pats. He is fairly selective about when he does it.

BTW:

I do not like the Pats, Belicheck or Brady. Even if Brady is on my fantasy team this year.

Coaches don’t lose their jobs for following conventional wisdom. Even if the statistics dictate otherwise.

Punting on less that 2 yards to go on the opponents side of the field show a lack of testosterone.
