I remember that when the Buckeyes won their last national title, few people gave them any chance against Miami. I'm not a fan of Ohio State at all but if they run the table two years in a row, I wouldn't dismiss them too quickly. Urban Meyer is a fine coach. Any team he coaches needs to be taken seriously.
And you have tapped into the C Edmund Wright theory of “the big dis” - when in this situation, where there will be nothing but a solid week of talk about one game and all that talk will say OSU will lose .this will give OSU a much better chance than otherwise, because they’ll be so sick and tired of hearing they have no chance.
This only happens in certain situations, where there is intense coverage, a lull between other games, and a big assumption of one team over another. Think Texas and Vince Young, having zero chance against S Cal and Reggie Bush, in Pasadena.
Think Lousville having zero chance v Florida in the Sugar last year.
These things matter ...
Urban Meyer is a great coach. One of the best. I hated it when he left Florida, but under the circumstances (it wasn’t his health), I understand why he made the move. If the same team shows up on Saturday that played vs. Michigan last week, the BCS will be FSU against the SEC. Personally, I’d like to see it without an SEC team this year. If not for a pathetic loss to West Virginia, we might have seen the other OSU in the game. After watching their dismantling of Baylor, they have the ability to beat any of the topped ranked teams.
