Back in the 80s I was riding my bicycle on the boardwalk within view of my home. When I attempted to ride by a group of 4 young men one stood from his perch and started walking toward me and right into my path. As I attempted to steer around him he walked faster. When I got to him he hit me with a round house swing knocking me backward off my bike. Startled but not injured, I got up expecting to have to defend myself from all four. I was happy to discover that his friends were as surprised by his actions as I was and they pulled him away from me so there would be no further altercation. They told me his girlfriend had just dumped him and he was depressed. So he attacked a complete stranger? I wanted to pound him,or at least get in one punch as payback. But it was clear that if I tried I would then be fighting all 4. I rode on, the scratches on my bicycle being the only evidence of the event.
