I saw her when she made an appearance at the opening of a new toy store in Jacksonville, FL back in the 60s. I was just a kid, of course, but I remember it well. RIP.

interesting tidbit

Also why is there not a TV show that goes out and interviews these old stars before they go away?

Dittos to that. It was some of the funniest stuff ever on the old ‘Black and White’. Another fave of mine was ‘Sgt. Bilko’ from roughly the era. I do not believe I have ever seen that re-run on any of the stations that show the oldies.

I always enjoyed Kean’s interpretation of Trixie. She had a funny, old-fashioned, sort of ‘vaudeville-esque’ way of delivering lines. Made things seem funny and create a laugh even if the line was a groaner. Joan Davis was good at that too.

I think Jean was sister to Betty Kean, who appeared in a few films back in the early-1940s, and was known for her quirky, humorous dance routines. I remember her mostly from an old Republic b-comedy starring Dennis O’Keefe.

The cable channels tend to avoid the black-and-white reruns save Andy Griffith and a few others.

And a stove! Don’t forget when Gleason shouted “There’s nothing wrong with this stove!!!” and slammed his hand down on top of it, followed by the oven door opening and a pie flying across the room. I laughed myself sick at that show every week. Perfect comedy. Extreme talent.

By the way, right after an hour of Car 54, Where Are You?

Yes, they were funny. Isn’t it odd that these old shows actually made people laugh without using curse words or sexual innuendos? How far this mighty nation has fallen from its lofty days when morality was considered.
