Ritalin helps kids in the same way that caffeine helps adults. As a matter of fact, when a kid forgets to take his Ritalin in the local schools, they give him Diet Mountain Dew.

I knew a Shrink who used Caffine pills to check for ADD ADHD. What he said made sense. If the caffine pill made the kid able to sit still, concentrate, etc, then yea he was likely looking at ADD ADHD. If not? Then It was most likely another undiagnosed physical ailment doctors were missing. Please keep in mind this is not the same thing as an undisciplined child. I'm 56 now. I put away at least six Cokes a day. Caffine does not effect me in the least. I take Xanax acctually. LOL.

Many kids symptoms are being triggered by the technology of our age. In years past the triggering mechanisims weren't there. We had B&W TV, no video games, no Gameboy, and a much slower and quiter lifestyle.

The only thing wrong with boys, is they are not allowed to be one! When I was a first time mother I had girl/boy twins. My daughter would hold her bottle with her pinkies in the air. My son had milk everywhere. I learned right away girls are girls. Boys are boys. What is even sadder is the feminization of males which is probably what causes ADHD IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Wow. I had a ct scan on my head this year and have structural problems with sinuses and ears which has caused chronic problems. I had no idea it could cause ADD like symptoms. That would explain so much! A steroid nasal spray has helped me more than anything thus far, it even seems to help my ears.

The older now retired General Practitioners knew about it more than doctors today. Look up Vestibular +Anxiety and you'll find out anxiety and Cognitive issues are a symptom of Vestibular Disorders. In some cases it is almost impossible to detect and doctors must rely on Patient History going all the way back to toddler asking did you have chronic ear infections, sinus allergies, etc. The damage gets done early on. The damage often can not be fixed.

Certain sounds in your case may become a serious issue for you to deal with. Sounds may seem exaggerated and certain frequencies more so. A word of advice. Avoid antidepressants if possible and focus on benzoipines {sp} like Xanax, Valium, etc if the anxiety hits. You have to tone down the sensory system.

I want to warn you about another possibility for your own sanity in case it hits you. If you start having panic/anxiety attacks with this it may come out of the blue. The onset can be in the form of what I call the Brain Fog which IMO is the worse type of attack. You are driving somewhere and loose all sense of where you are, why, how you got there, where you were going, etc. Generally this last less than an hour but can last as long as two days. You are not going to die LOL. Pull over, get some coffee or just relax for a while.

In some other cases it can effect your Central Nervous System in another way which can also be misdiagnosed. You may start having a bad Startle Reaction resulting in spasming in your upper torso. These are actually called Myoclonic Seizures. They can be as frequent as several a minute or as few as rare. I have those type of seizures and the Onset hit me when I was in my mid 30's. The Brain Fog hit first though.

Here is an interesting article for you. It's kinda old but has some great insight. Cognitive Aspects Of Vestibular Disorders This article deals with some of the issues. If a person reads it they can see how easy it would be for doctors to misdiagnoses it for ADD ADHD.

I also Highly recommend a book called Phobia Free by Harold Levisnon MD. He is a research Neurlogist. This was the man who began linking adult anxiety disorders, ADD ADHD, and even forms of Dyslexia with Inner Ear {Vestibular} Disorders back in the 1970's. He was scoffed at for years.

I credit that book I found second hand with giving me neurologically based answers and changed how I allowed doctors to treat what I have. They darn near killed me with antidepressants.

Antidepressants for Vestibular patients can trigger a very severe adverse reaction to the medication much like that of LSD. Not Tin Foil I've seen it happen to my wife. My wife is a quadriplegic. Besides motor function one of the first things that happens in quadriplegia is loss of Inner Ear Function which must be regained. Persons with neurological impairments seem to be more prone to antidepressant adverse reactions.

I’m an Aspie and it bothers me when I see Autism-spectrum kids glued to devices all the time. They are just feeding the beast.

You'd think people would be catching on by now. Certain medical fields have but mental health is still back in the 1960's and Big Pharm driven. Like many things today there's money to be made and accuracy or at least getting a handle on what is going on goes out the window.

I reckon I got my butt busted many a time. I had wise parents. They saw my weaknesses in areas like sports and accepted it. But dad by the time I was about 14 had me to where I could camp out and care care for myself on the lake boat and all. If the technology I had as an adult was around when I was a teenager or younger it would have been a lot worse. They couldn't figure me out when I was a toddler. Loud noises I closed my eyes. If I saw something that scared me I stopped up my ears LOL. My vison issues were the first thing they discovered. But if I hadn't gotten the help I did early on I would not have had the productive time I did.

I don't want to see kids who have real issues miss getting needed treatment because of the ADD ADHD hype. It's at a dangerous point because hear the words ADD ADHD and say B.S. but don't look into other posibilities for real problems that can be helped.

It’s more a matter of how the child develops. We developed by playing ball or climbing trees or building blocks, etc. Our brains developed without being in crisis mode all the time. It was a slower, more patient development. We had to learn patience. We had to learn social skills. Technology can displace that in a negative way.

That's true. Most kids in my schools growing up did not have things like ADD ADHD. Each elementary school of say about 800 kids maybe one or two kids per grade had it. Of those 50% actually may have been something else like I was. What kids watch and what they listen to can trigger the fight/flight portion of the brain. That is where the strongest impulses can come from and that portion demands an appropriate response to data it receives. If not then the behavioral side kicks in. Fear of heights for example in most cases is not an actual phobia. Your brain running it's on checks and balances realizes a balance issue. It may detect issues you are not aware of in balance etc. Cross over what the brain see's as safe and the brain demands response.

My 7th and 8th grade year was in a Special Education/Rehabilitation Center. The Rehabilitation being focused on kids with learning and physical issues. I saw kids with everything a kid can have. It was actually a regional {about six county} school with about 500 students that served the Knoxville, TN area. Only a few were ADD ADHD. Polio, MD, CP, Autism, Dyslexia, Open Spine, hearing impairment and visual impairments were the main issues. It got closed down later on I think in the late 1980's due to mainstreaming. Who benefited? The schools they went to got extra funds for doing nothing for the kids. Who suffered? The kids. They lost the help they were getting. Special Education Teachers have a special ability to teach kids with problems most other teachers do not have or do not have time for.

I made it through high school and completed two post high school Voc/Tech courses in different fields. In today's schools I would not have stood a chance.

Made-up disease by made-up scientists

With very real ramifications due to the powerful drugs that are dolled out as a result of their imaginations.

When a child is diagnosed with a disorder, very often the parent will be eligible for a monthly social security check to help that child.

Additionally, the schools are eligible for additional funding for the number of "special needs" students that they count on their books. Interesting since this process of diagnosis is often initiated by the teachers.

No drugs! Thank the Lord! It is proven to alter a child’s brain. Hard work and discipline are the way to go!
