The wind generally blows from west to east so Utah is glowing.

California will have to find another excuse for its freaks.

Divider was the last vertical, and Hunter’s Trophy was the last horizontal line of sight test.

Thanks. I thought they were signatories to the ‘63 treaty.

Their tests in the 90’s were underground, but in the pacific.

The guy who made this video did it to illustrate the “fear and folly” of nuclear weapons.

It was the fear of nuclear weapons that prevented World War III in the 20th Century.

Best closing credits song and visual ever! Thanks for posting it. I’m having computer issues this morning or I would have done it.

Over 2050 nuclear explosions and no “nuclear winter”? And global warming is from cow farts and carbon foot print of every day citizens? Looks more like government is the biggest problem in the world.

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched that movie. My VHS version wore out just in time to be replaced with a DVD. I may watch it later today.

It’s a great flick. I might have to put my DVD on later as well. Enjoy. :)

My knowledge of geography is lacking. I didn’t know there were islands large enough to have enough volume underground to contain blasts.

I turned 10 years old in January 1963. I saw the movie in I believe March or April of 63 with my 16 yr old brother. We argued all the way on our walk home. I maintained that Sellers played 3 parts my brother didn't agree saying he only played Strangelove. We went back and saw it again the next day. He saw I was right. He has never argued detail with me again. Sellers was one of the best British actors of all time. He was so versatile.

They would drill down about a half mile into the center of an atoll, through a limestone layer into basalt. That would give them a substantial amount of overburden for containment. Here's a pic of one of their tests.

Even after the ban on atmospheric testing, everyone interpreted what a "release of radiation" meant differently. A number of containment failures have occurred.

Peter Sellers was great. I first knew of him as Inspector Jacques Clouseau. I loved those movies as a kid. (I saw them on TV in the 80’s)You’ve got me by 21 years.
