PORTLAND, Ore., - An Oregon radio station said it will change a billboard in Portland's Chinatown criticized as insensitive for its message: "We love you long time."
A statement issued by KXL-FM, Portland, said the billboard was not meant to be disrespectful and will be changed following complaints, KPTV, Portland, reported Tuesday.
"It's a famous quote from an old rap song, we thought it would get attention but in no way meant disrespect to anyone," the station said. "This was a decision from the marketing and programming department. However, after our news department came to us and said they believed it to be insensitive, we decided to change the message. That change is in process now."
The 2 Live Crew song in question was quoting a line from the 1987 film "Full Metal Jacket," when a Vietnamese prostitute is soliciting business from U.S. military members.
KXL said the new billboard will read: "Stay connected, my friends."
WE ROVE YOU RONG TIME???
How to respond to left-tard hand-wringers when they cry about “insesitivity” to their “multicultural” crapola.
Does that offend you?
Because it doesn’t offend me.
That’s one reason why I’m happier than you.
There’s no sense of humor left in this country.
Must’ve been a sudden run of Asians at the psychiatrist office trying to cope with this billboard!
Two Wongs will make it white...(A sign in a Chinese laundry that got yanked)
“Taken from a rap song and from a 1987 film?”
Nah, I heard that same saying in Tijuana, Mexico in 1962! ROFL
plenty boom boom!
beau coup
Oh, it’s not meant to make fun of stereotypes of broken English; it’s plainly a gangsta rap reference to third-world whores.
Somehow it seems quite easy to find offended people when we have so many unemployed sitting at home, watching daytime TV which is absolutely overrun with ambulance chasers trolling for more business.
No, it's a quote from the film, Full Metal Jacket which was stolen by 2 Live Crew.
So, it appears no one was offended. The news dept through it might be offensive. This is how a news station creates publicity about itself and appears to be the "good guy" in a liberal cess pool of a city.
It's a LOOPED sound bite from Stanley Kubrick's "Fear & Loathing In Vietnam", I mean "Full Metal Jacket".
Rappers seldom originate ANYTHING.
That was well known in the entertainment industry as Al "Jew Them Down" Sharpton's breadwinning ploy.
Ran across 1980s examples of it in a book about the mob and MCA. Sharpton even shook down the Jackson tour (either Michael or Jackson 5) for not having enough black people on staff. Pay his extortion fee and he just goes away (no change in staffing necessary).
These morons can’t even stereotype correctly...or just couldn’t find the “Vietnam-town” in their burgh.
