It's a story which was been famously brought to life by Julie Christie adapted from Thomas Hardy's novel written in 1874. But now Carey Mulligan is taking on the role of Bathsheba Everdene in a new take on the story of the West Country heiress loved by three men, which is promised to be a 'raw and revolutionary' adaptation of the classic tale. The 28-year-old actress was seen in character as Bathsheba on the set of the new movie in Sherborne, Dorset, on Sunday, in what marks the first official look at the upcoming film.

Unlike the 1967 movie, at least Mulligan's hair is dyed as a brunette like in the book. They are actually filming the series in the right location of Dorset or South Wessex in Hardy's fictional Wessex. As a side note, Suzanne Collins used the heroine of the novel Bathsheba Everdene as inspiration to name the heroine of her novels Katniss Everdeen.

Carey Mulligan sports period costume..starts shooting ... I've read too many gun articles here. I was imagining someone in Victorian clothing with a revolver.

Madding Crowd was a horrible movie. After seeing the compelling force of Julie Christie in Zhivago a couple of years earlier, seeing her in Madding violated my sensibilities. She was miscast and misdirected.
