100# seems pretty heavy for a Lab and choosing to neuter at age 10 doesn’t make a lot of sense, either. Surprised a vet agreed to do it...definitely sad, though.

This is why you never neuter your pets.
I might have committed suicide as well, if I were to awaken to the fact that someone I trusted had taken all reason to live away from Me.
And people think we are joking when we blokes mention that it kind of takes away our will-to-live...

The pup saw all those other dogs running in a pack, so he felt he had to join in too.

Boogie you can eat all you want now. And hopefully heavens got some big fields to run around in. And ponds to jump in.

Really sad. I wonder if he had an underlying heart condition.

Tip one: If you see a dog running a half marathon and you’re passing a water station, PUT DOWN WATER and wait for the dog to drink.
Tip two: If your dog runs a half marathon without water, do not take it out for surgery in the week that follows.
Alas, hearing from some of the runners who ran next to this dog (and outraced almost all of them), while people grabbed cups for themselves at water stations, no one grabbed any for the dog. The only ‘hydration’ that anyone saw the dog get on course was someone poured a cup of water on him, and then at the finish line he was given a good amount of water.
Unfortunately, that was likely too late and he needed more intensive medical care at that point, even if he appeared fine.

Dogs do not have heart attacks per se. They have heart failure, chordae tendenae ruptures but no blockages as in people. My take is the dog had some major other problem that caused the sudden death, usually a neoplastic lesion that ruptures and results in death within minutes.

Dogs are sprinters, not marathoners, or even half-marathoners.
