My friend is from New Zealand. They have been in the states for over ten years. Her husband started a business here and her family adapted to the American way of life easily. They have now gone back home after ten years. They could start to see things getting worse for their business with higher taxes and healthcare. They picked up their things and left about a month ago. They are now back in New Zealand and happy as can be. Sometimes I think that is the place to go if my family needs to leave the USA.
As long as we still have our guns, we can win back this country. I’m not sure why it’s taking so long. When the Rats steal the next election....
My opinion is that “getting out of the US” posts are mainly a sign of frustration that lacks some logic and clear thinking. I have visited a lot of places (including Costa Rica and Belize) and thoght it would be nice to live there. Ireland comes closest to that notion. But in all honesty I cannot think of another country that I would move to unless forced to by governmental circumstances that would have to be far worse than they are today. If that were to be the case, I would just move to Mexico.
I still think many of the red states will be much more ideal than Europe. They do have huge numbers of people who are gonna go down fighting, and for whom there is literally no other option. Texas and the Southern and Midwestern states are still miles ahead of all the nations listed in the article and pretty much all of Europe as far as places to escape too.
Suggesting otherwise shows that American conservatives really don’t have heart, conviction and fighting spirit.
And to be fair, America does have all that stuff too, including the Red States.
Eastern Siberia has lots of open land. Too bad it is eastern Siberia.
Thats where Im thinking!
We already have one foot in Sweden, so honestly, we could very well end up there. The weather is kind of a deal breaker for me but you live in a small apartment and they are usually heated pretty well which makes it tolerable. I do enjoy the way of life there. Everyone speaks English, I know enough Swedish to build on. My kids are very comfortable there. It's very safe as long as you stay out of certain Muslim areas.
I used to work with someone from there. He said they have two seasons: wet and less-wet. He recommended living at high altitude.
Just wonderful till their economy collapses and they go gringo hunting.
Hey, that's my line!
(LOL)
That is entirely true. And it does neglect that fact that a. On a true shtf scenario, there are at most a handful of nations that are truly gonna be in better shape than the US, and escaping there is only gonna be an option for a tiny fraction of Americans to beginw itheven if every one of them wanted to do so.
I have family who go there often. They would certainly never describe it that way.
There are pockets of certain states where one can go to enjoy their remaining years. They key is no TV. My husband and I picked up a dirt cheap house in tropical SW Florida in Cape Coral — County about a year ago. You can truly escape down there. When the SHTF, it’s pretty easy to survive down there. You can live without heat and air conditioning if you have to. You can cook outside. You can arm yourself. And the only way onto the Cape is to cross a bridge which eliminates a lot of the riff raff. Went to the Ft. Myers flea market and saw nothing but duck dynasty guys. Felt right at home. One more year.
Did you get out into the countryside and the highlands or did you concentrate on Panama City?
Isn’t Sweden still much less economically free than the US even now? Don’t they have WAY more full blown communists and communist sympathizers?
Really? That’s interesting. Ex pats that I know that lived there hated it. Not sure what the diff is....
......And it’s very possible.
I have actually considered Costa Rica, and earlier this year went house-hunting there both in San Jose (Escazu actually) and on the coast. I spent time with a real estate lawyer there to discuss options (you need a lawyer to safely buy there).
Costa Rica is a place where you can retire pretty comfortably, and they have great/affordable medical care.
However... their current president is left-leaning, and she's starting to bear the fruits of any leftist government (crime is on the increase, businesses are getting squeezed, dealing with getting a permanent drivers license is getting harder and so on). Americans who live there are getting nailed by the US now for more taxes and reporting requirements regarding their finances, so they're losing the financial advantage unless they opt to give up their citizenship.
I finally decided to shelve the idea and wound up moving to FL instead about a month ago (was in Los Angeles before).
