It is a remarkable coincidence that my deer stand overlooks my pumpkin patch and a compost pile of windfall apples.

Pumpkins may draw wildlife, but lead repels them.

This is preparatory to the citations to be issued for the pumpkins, squash and other food left outside. I figure a whole lot of little Barney Fife’s can be made busy giving old timers, snowbirds and families with kids $100 tickets per pumpkin/gourd. Not a bad haul for yon government enforcers...

Halloween candy tends to attract herds of young, mostly Mexican-American kids.

Only on the surface does this seem a little annoying, because these are kids that still appreciate Halloween for Halloween’s sake. They dress up in nice costumes and are always polite, not cynical, rude or jaded like white kids sometimes are.

In fact, they are even nicer, because Halloween is the day before the Mexican Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, which takes place on November 1 and 2, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. So the three days are a time to be respectful.

And while to Americans November 1st is just to clean up after Halloween, these kids and their families will be going to a cemetery to honor the dead. More respect.

And it’s good to see that at least somebody still enjoys the day as a non-commercialized time for children to have fun and build memories.

So, under Obama, guess they’re illegal, too, huh?

In my neck of the woods, we call that BAIT! :)

LOL.. We've had deer come right up to our door to eat the pumpkins.
