Who would you blame for a government shutdown?

I am sick of this question being asked and it causes a barf alert in me. It skews surveys because of course I would "blame" the GOP. Except "blame" isn't the word to use. It should be "credit".

Who would you credit for a government shutdown?

There was a poll yesterday from some “news organ” in MN that didn’t even give the option of the Democrats.

I blame the slow motion cultural collision of the forces of fascism on the left and the forces of freedom on the right. ‘twas ever thus except, for a few decades, the forces of freedom prevailed here but, at least since Wilson, the fascists are in the ascendency. We have, right in front of us, the fight of the centuries. If the left wins, we will descend back to feudalism where every man owes nearly everything to a chain of illegitimate authorities above him and freedom ceases to exist.

Shutting down the government is a first step. CWII will likely follow and posterity depends on who wins. I’ve backed up all I’m going to.

Question: Who would be to blame for the shutdown?

Answer: all of the above.

That's it for the flip answer. But let's look a little deeper into the situation. The Republicans have sent a bill that continues funding most of government to the Senate. The only spending missing is the funds for the so-called Obamacare program. In other words, it's a bill that would maintain the full faith and credit of the government to the vast majority of existing recipients of money from the US Treasury. The Senate passing this bill would prevent a shutdown of the US government for sure.

Then the Democrats can then work to craft and pass a separate bill, starting in the House as required by the Constitution, to fund Obamacare. Nothing in the Continuing Resolution passed in the house precludes the Democrats from pushing for the funding of their pet. Now, the politics of the matter is that any such bill would also end up including reforms to Obamacare, including those identified by the Democrats as "glitches". This would also be a chance for the Democrats to heal another part of the bill: put reasonable limits on medical liability claims, shut down the deep-pockets litigation scheme, and reduce medical costs across the board by making "preventative medicine" unnecessary. (That would have shaved a good $20K out-of-pocket from my last major hospital stay.)

If it's so good for the country, why are the Democrats so afraid of going that route?

The question itself is an example of how the news media is skewed to the Progressive left.

The government is inherently good, and more government is inherently better, and more funding for government activity is inherently good. Or, to put it better, all these things are understood and go without saying.

It is understood that all societal problems have sources in insufficient government activity and solutions in greater government activity.

Ergo, for example, there can only be “blame” for a government shutdown. It goes without saying that there can be no praise or credit for any cutting of government.

Harry Reid. He said that the Democrats will not bow to tea party patriots.

Obama WILL bow to Islamists and Communists, however.

This administration sees domestic political opponents as a greater THREAT than he does those who seek to see us crippled or conquered.

There is a myth perpetuated by the liberal media and even many Republicans that the party was seriously damaged by the 1995 Government shutdown, in fact they go as far as claiming that was the sole reason Clinton was reelected in 1996. Although, both parties and President Clinton did take a hit in the polls during the shutdown and in the immediate aftermath, within a couple months approval numbers had returned to pre-shutdown levels. In fact Republicans went on to gain seats in the Senate in 1996 and do well in many state races. Although Clinton did get reelected, that was due far more to the booming economy brought on by the dotcom bubble and the fact that the Republican nominated the ancient Bob Dole to run against the youthful Clinton.
