Heard the same version of Dilger’s “discharge,” and he was originally facing felony weapons charges. But by the time he went to court, the charges had been reduced to misdemeanors and he walked. Must have had a good lawyer. Connections on Capitol Hill didn’t hurt, either. From a newspaper account at the time:
Thanks for the link. Interesting. I guess he did suffer enough, as he was a complete putz for bringing a live 30mm round. . .makes no sense to do that. Can’t shoot it anywhere near Wash DC or the surrounding area. That is what weapons testing ranges are for.
So he demonstrated to the world he was an idiot. . .so, yes, he suffered enough.
