but the ISP now keeps track of everywhere you went and everything you did online.

“I was raised when America was America.”

That gives away your age right there.

I'm not sure that's possible. I didn't add all the features you get.

The encryption is either L2TP/IPSec or OpenVPN, both 256-bit bank encryption. The NSA is reported to have cracked the lower 128-bit PPTP protocol.

All Internet traffic routes through the VPN, not just bowser secure sites. That means email, games, streaming video, everything.

The traffic is encrypted before the ISP can see it. They know where you're going, but not what you're sending. And...

Where you're going is a secure server farm. The traffic is open from the farm to the final destination, but is secure from your computer to the server farm. The ISP only sees that you are communicating with the server farm.

Finally, there are server farms all over the world, and the cities they are in are growing. If sites are geotagged to only allow local access, you can connect to an in-country server and appear to originate from that location.

Oh, and you can also download an Android app and secure your smartphone traffic, too.

I think you’re running into simple resource constraints.

The internet is becoming more tech-intense.

We do not run into resource issues here on FR and seem to ignore there are access issues elsewhere, where they just keep piling access intensive apps on top of each other.

I think FR has the right approach, but that is partly the reason for the ongoing issues.

Well, y'all are tucked in bed by now - just wanted to let you know - I got rid of the threatened trojans, got PC cleaner uninstalled - DO NO T EVER MESS WITH THEM - I believe they were the source of the threatened Trojans and they were determined not to get uninstalled. Pop-ups every half hour - complete with loud voice message to startle you out of your chair...

I got a restore - back to 3 days ago for insurance and got rid of the down loads Yahoo! insisted I need to do, including FireFox - got my ability to drop icons on my desktop back, got my ‘files tools ‘ etc bar back and can get into my mailbox thru Ixquik without any blocking popup boxes trying to reroute or lock out.

Going to go to bed - had that nightcap and it's working - and pray everything still holding in the morning.

Thank you all for your great advice and informative - and some fun - posts.

arrgg - just noticed I lost the automatic spell check with the restore! I'll have to research that - tomorrow.

Thunderbird is real easy to use, and there is PLENTY of on-line help for it.
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/

If you allow it to be your email client, it will give you an email window when you click on an email link in your browser.

You can send documents even more securely by using ziptr.
http://www.ziptr.com/

However, you and all your correspondents must have ziptr accounts, which are free.

That looks interesting :^)

Maybe we, as FReepers should all get it and learn how to use it... just in case...

Ixquick and Startpage.com are secure search-engines, not browsers. They are also developing Startmail.com which was delayed by Ed Snowden’s revelations of what the NSA is able to do.

Until Startmail rolls out, I use Microsoft’s Outlook.com - an excellent email client, but I wouldn’t bet a dime on its security.

Good luck.

Follow the prompts it gives you carefully, as deleting Registry files can mess up other programs.

Yes, I’ve used StartPage - good to know they are working on email - I’ll watch for that

I’ve also been using Zeekly for some time - and no problems so far

The only plus, amonst the dozens of negatives - I had with all the crta*pola yesterday was that I suddenly had automatice spell vheck on both FR and FB. VERY handy. I lost it, but gained back everything else with my restore.

Does anyone know how to get the automatic spell check back - without botching things up again?

Is anyone familiar with or used “Speckle” for an automatic spell checker -

Okay everyone, they’ve caught up with me and locked me out of accessing my email thru’ Ixquick or Zeekly - or even my icon in tool bar thru IE/Yahoo.

I can, however, get to my email through side bar on the left of the Yahoo! page.

so okay, that is what I’ll use now - I am not going to jump thru their hoop again like ysterday.

I ‘ll play along until I can set up with StartPage or some other secure avenue for my email -

OR - I’ll move back up further into the woods with my wood stove, my kerosene lamps, my dog, get a donkey and grow garlic. ;o)

++++++++++

All in all, best plan - don’t forget the 12gauge, water filter, and you’re good to go.

Good job with the conversion kit.

(I haven’t been a member long enough to reply in PM.)

I use Firefox browser, and I believe that all browsers, have the spell-check option that you can turn on or off.
