Ken Norton and George Foreman, both class acts.

Howard did good fight calls.

He did good calls of military coups as well.

Interesting thought... What would Ali do if Tyson tried to bite off his ear? I’d pay to see that!!

In their 2nd fight in Yankee Stadium,

Mea culpa.

It was their 3rd fight in Yankee Stadium, 1978.

They re-matched after the 1st fight, and Ali won by split-decision. Ali-2, Norton 1.

Many years later, Norton was seriously injured in a car accident. Ali visited him in the hospital.

If y’all get the chance, get a hold of the movie, “Facing Ali”

It’s a movie about all the fighters who became SOMEBODY because they fought Muhammad Ali.

Ken Norton was a class act...

I'm only comparing that era with the heavyweight division of today. It has been especially bad for American heavyweights. We use to dominate the division but now it's controlled by foreign fighters.

Takes me back to when boxing was real. Ali fights were treated like Super Bowls back in the ‘70s.
TV parties were organized. Unfortunately, it was those fights that gave birth to “pay per view”.

Try again! Their 3rd. fight was in 1976, not 1978.

It was their 3rd fight in Yankee Stadium, 1978.

Screwed up again. It was 1976.

I have the newspaper. It says, “Father Time Nearly Catches Up With Ali”. Ali-vs-Norton, Yankee Stadium, 1976

I was on my honeymoon in 1978 on board the SS Rotterdam when Ali beat Leon Spinks to regain the Crown for the 3rd time.

My memory is still sharp, just not as quick...

Saw him fight and defeat Ali live in San Diego as well as watched him in several fights in San Diego earlier in his career. Almost bumped into him at the Summer Olympics in LA in 1984.

His son was all pro and had superbowl rings. I.e. more than one with the niners and the boys!

Hard not to attribute, at least in part, Norton’s relatively early demise to the poundings he took as a fighter. Ditto Ali, who, of course, is still with us but in a greatly impaired state.

I remembered the boys, but didn’t check and forgot the niners.

Also, no one has commented on one of my favorite Ken Norton fights, the one between Ken and Larry Holmes. Ken clearly one the first seven rounds, and Larry clearly won the second seven. The 15th was an amazing last-man standing endurance brawl.

I remember as a kid visiting my sister and brother in law and watching that first Norton-Ali fight. We all found out later that he broke his jaw early in the fight. Don’t remember much else about his career but his son was a pretty good football player.

Haven’t watched it or boxing for years although did see a blip on TV recently and it seemed like everyone was from somewhere south of the U.S.

During his waning years my daddy used to tell everyone who would listen that all the wrestlers had turned into pantywaists - and that was in the 1960’s. He played football for St. Louis in the days when players had no protective gear and wore leather helmets. He’s got to be screaming all the way down from heaven at what’s going on men in today’s society.

“Joe Frazier didn’t shut his mouth but he did give him a few beatings. Those were the days of good heavyweight fights.”

Joe Frazier is the one who gave Parkinson’s to Clay.
