I love stories like this. We’ll hear statistics, studies and research promising us that things are getting better. But one kid with excellent grades who can’t write, or doesn’t know what 7×9 is, gives away the whole game.
Tell your friend I’d like to have a whole bunch of these stories. Or maybe she could write an article and I’ll publish it anonymously for her, on edarticle.com, etc.

Funny you should say that, she is actually publishing her findings over the years.
Of course she has kids that are fantastic.
She stopped bye the other day to say (first week of school) that five of her students wanted excused absences to go to a concert, of course she said no.
She is passionate about teaching kids who want to learn but sick of kids who are coasting.
I think as long as we are graduating kids who can’t read, we are domed.
