Ask your GP if a nerve conductivity test is in order. They'll take readings of your 'traffic' and see if there's any disruptions. Might be a painful test, but my guess is neurological if nothing else has been found.
P.S. CT scans is insufficient. MRI is in order too, and they want to do that first before they move on to nerve conductivity test.
Have already had the nerve conductivity test...I have permanent nerve damage from them waiting too long to correct my spine damage. I had sciatica, a bulged disc and major pain. They made me wait nearly 2 years for the surgery to fuse. Now, I’m worse than I was before the surgery.
...and YES, it was extremely painful!
Concur. I've had four major lower back surgeries including a fusion at L5-S1 (which has had to be repaired once) and now have neuropathy in my feet as a result. The nerve conduction test (EMG) requires the placement of needles between the spine and toes with a corresponding electrical signal ("shock") to measure the amount of voltage to noise along the nerve route between pin points.
I've had that test more times than I can recall over the last 20 years and it never gets any easier. I hate it with a passion and I'm typically very VERY grumpy the rest of the day after having had it.
The test is not painful and it takes 20 minutes to complete.
