I have to agree with Tiger on this one - this was a bogus call on the part of the rules official and he shouldn’t IMO been given a two shot penalty for this. The ball did not move, i.e. roll or change position, it did oscillate a bit but, barely so, but it did not change position and his actions certainly did nothing to improve the lie, and as soon as he realized that if he did completely remove the twig from in front of the ball, that the ball would move, at that point he stopped trying to remove it and played it as it lied.
I had to watch it on full screen, but the ball definitely moved. Balls don’t often “oscillate” in the woods, they do on the green sometimes. That ball pitched backwards and never returned to it’s original position.
If you look at it on full screen the ball did move. If there’s a chance the ball will move you don’t try to remove the impediment, if you do you and the ball moves you should be prepared to take the penalty.
Seemed obvious that it moved to me. And I guess the officals seen the same thing.
The ball clearly changed position and since Tiger was moving twigs he had to be looking right at it and known.
Too bad this is going to overshadow Furyk's brilliant 59.
