Legend is they were leftovers from some College All-Star Game as the then-Broncos owner was too cheap to order new ones.
When I lived in Denver from 1980-83, those socks were still the brunt of jokes amongst Bronco fans.
BTW, 30 years after my wife and I left Colorado to return to Rochester, NY, my son and his wife moved to Castle Rock to start their careers.
