A small handful were sporting the “El Tri” colors.

Someone on another forum asked the question why didn’t they schedule the game at a NFL stadium (for a bigger crowd) instead of the smaller Columbus Crew stadium. The short answer was that the USSF wanted to ensure a “home crowd” for the US soccer team and not turn it into an away game for the USA in the USA.

I’d agree with playing it in Columbus. Soccer is popular there, the Crew draw well, and better a full and rocking 25,000-seater than a half-empty 70,000-seater packed with Mexican fans. That was a smart move.
