the “fort” is just a place from which to launch offensive raids against the new savages. If you sit and cede the initiative to them, you wil die.
with 2 elderly parents I’ve got to Fort up, but I’m in a better position than most, not road wise for ours is a cut through between two “major” roads, but I’m retired Marine, my neighbor is retired Marine, across the road are some damn fine hunters (went with them last winter, good ol boys), so we’ll all band together, share food, the watch, and everything else.
Good neighbors will help with every aspect of SHTF, and maybe we’ll all survice it.
