Bill Belichick makes the personnel decisions in New England, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft has complete trust in his coach. But Kraft sure sounds like he wishes Belichick had found a spot on the 53-man roster for Tim Tebow.
Kraft said on CBS This Morning that he was really hoping Tebow would make the team.
I love Tim Tebow and I very much wanted him on the team, Kraft said.
Still, Kraft understands that Tom Brady is the starter, Ryan Mallett is the backup and there just wasnt room for Tebow on the Patriots 53-man roster.
If you look at four of the last five years, weve only carried two quarterbacks, Kraft said. And when cut-down time comes, you need those last three or four positions for depth, and we happen to have, I think, the finest quarterback in the history of the game, and hes not going off the field except by injury. We have a great second-string quarterback. When he came in, he came in as the third quarterback and we were all rooting for him. Life takes funny turns, so no one knows whats going to happen in the future, but whatever he does I know hes going to be a great success off the field and Im rooting for him to get his opportunity on the field as well.

I respect a Big Boss who doesn’t meddle. You pay the coach to make decisions. Second guessing the coach would just tell the world that you don’t know how to hire a competent coach. Kraft, of course, has hired a competent coach, Kraft knows it, and Kraft is letting the coach make these decisions. As it should be.
Exactly. What you said.
Well said. As much as I like Tebow, I admire and respect Kraft’s self-restrained position.
You are exactly right. I do not like the Patriots, but (film-gate aside) they run a class organization the right way. Kraft is the driving force. He set the table for winning, and placed a brilliant coach in place to make these decisions.
That is why Kraft wins Super Bowls while Al Davis spent a couple of decades mired at the bottom of the NFL standings.
I am hoping The Bills pick him up
Not only is he better than anything we have, he would fit in well in this very catholic community
Falcons Fan located in South Georgia but also a Jag Fan. You are right they gonna suck this year. With Tebow they may still suck but at least the stands would be filled and Tebow Jag stuff selling like hot cakes. Also Tebow could get the playing time needed to improve. He is a winner so you never know.
Yeah...there was. Just not as a 3rd string QB.
The NFL really should increase roster sizes. There is plenty of money floating around, and it would give some guys a chance to develop into quality players before being cast off.
Yup. The number 54 would have made football season here in the Northeast a lot more interesting this year. Think of how a football mind like Belichick could have used a talented, dedicated young man who "just wants to be a football player".
There is one benefit for me in Tebow getting cut.
Now I can hate the Patriots with a clear conscience.
I want Tebow to do well because he’s such a fine young man.
>>I respect a Big Boss who doesnt meddle.<<
>>>Maybe Jerry J and a few other team owners should pay attention ...<<<
The net result of owner meddling is the Oakland Raiders (God rest Al Davis’ soul).
In the 1970s that might have worked. Since then, nope.
>>I want Tebow to do well because hes such a fine young man.<<
And here I thought it was talent and ability that matter in professional sports.
I am 5’6” but a really swell guy. Where do I get my NBA contract?
Huh ?
I never thought Tebow would be a great NFL quarterback.
He won his games at UF with his running.
I think he could be utilized in a wildcat type formation though.
Still want him to be successful.
