If they get their foot in the door as regional experts, they can influence policy.

In another venue (DOJ), look what the SPLC did by getting their feet in as experts on "hate groups"--they included a few genuine ones from the right and the left, then skewed the mess with anything conservative.

Why else would DHS consider 'bitter clingers' potential terrorists?
