Why don't I have a great deal of trouble believing that's possible. That's not to excuse her behavior, to be sure, but I've more than once seen electronics places sell damaged, returned, unrefurbished goods as new.

If she’d been polite but insistent and asked for a manager she might have negotiated an exchange in spite of the official terms, just because the store did want to keep customers happy. Going in with a “God bless you, but I really need help with this disappointing situation” attitude opens more doors than a “why, you rotten pieces of @#$%&!!” attitude will.

The clerk who shot the footage says after trying to explain to the irate mother her son’s date of purchase exceeded the store’s 7-day policy for refunds, the mother wasn’t taking no for an answer.

The mother wasn't taking no for an answer because rules and regulations and policies are for other people. The mother is entitled to be the exception to every rule. Thus, in anger, she literally showed her ass.

Best Buy did it to me 10 years ago. Sold me a "new" computer, I found out how "new" it was when I tried to collect the rebate and found that it had already been collected once before.

I raised enough hell in the store, just short of them calling the cops, that they gave me two different new computers. I was loud enough and specific enough that every customer in the store knew what I was complaining about.

I will never again even enter a Best Buy.
