I remember in May, 1980, flying across country while reading a magazine article concerning the discovery of a ‘mitochondrial Eve’. That would be 7-years earlier than this article states.
Makes me wonder what else is inaccurate in Ewen Callaway’s article here.
The reason the female chromosomes appear to come from earlier in time is because the human chromosomes go back to Noah, his wife and sons, and their sons’ three wives. The sons’ chromosomes come from Noah. But Noah’s wife’s and daughters-in-law’s chromosomes would have come from someone farther back in time.
