The nations largest Lutheran group elected its first woman as presiding bishop on Wednesday.
The Rev. Elizabeth Eaton was chosen as head of the liberal-leaning Evangelical Lutheran Church in America during its national legislative meeting in Pittsburgh. Eaton won on the fifth ballot with 600 votes, defeating the incumbent, the Rev. Mark Hanson, who is finishing his second six-year term. Hanson received 287 votes.
Eaton, a bishop from the northeastern Ohio district, is taking over leadership of the more than 4 million-member denomination at a time of major transition. In 2009, the denomination cleared the way for openly gay and lesbian ordination, causing losses in a church that, like some Protestant groups, had already been losing members for years. The Chicago-based denomination has trimmed jobs and restructured while redirecting resources into evangelization, especially to Latinos and other groups.

A woman pagan beat the male pagan? Wow.
Just making an historical observation that Martin Luther would likely nail more than 95 Theses to the ELCA’s door...
ELCA. Every Liberal Cause in America
Their membership has gotten smaller.
Interestingly they managed to accomplish this before the Anglicans approved female bishops.
This puts them at the forefront of apostasy.
When this happened in the Episcopal church, she quickly led them to paganism and the "celebration of the Devine Feminine".
Watch out, here it comes.
In our small church we are moving back toward biblical principles by RESTRICTING women’s participation in leadership positions especially in spiritual matters.
Women play many vital roles in the church, but preaching and spiritual leadership is to be done by men only.
Female pastors are generally the first step to full blown apostasy. They are a gateway sin.
I was actually not surprised to read on the marquee that it's now a non-demoninational church.
I had been there as a visitor several times over the years always to find the words in the church's bible readings, liturgy and hymns never jibed at all with the Missouri Synod Lutheran church I had been baptized and confirmed in.
Of course, it was the mighty ELCA just doing it's thing, modernizing and spinning Scripture to its liking.....and altering the historic words and music parts of a Lutheran Sunday service to be more "relevant", more "inviting", less judgmental, more cool.
When I went there as a guest of a baptism party, I saw they now had a woman pastor. Sure enough, I heard that scores of the parishioners (and even many of the ushers) abruptly quit as they didn't want female pastors.....(how sexist and old-fogeyish they were!).....and, as a consequence, their donations quit, also.
In view of that consequence, it didn't take long to replace the reverend-ette with a male....but evidently it was too late to resuscitate things....and, as I noted on my drive past, the ECLA church presence in my area is now history.
Let me tell you, these liberal, apostate ELCA "Lutherans" are so hell-bent on self-destruction that their whole synod will go down in flames before they reign in/eliminate their "progressive" religious practices.
This ten-year span of this neighborhood church's determined ideological march culminating in the loss of its congregants is emblematic and proof positive that liberalism is a mental disease.....with the bit-by-bit destruction of Christianity itself being the end goal.
The folks in that congregation voted with their feet.

“Luth’ran”
Doesn’t mean quite the same
As what you’ve been
Taught to know by that name.
We’re removin’
All the scandal and shame
Of a church that stands for something.
Luth’ran,
No, you’re not misinformed,
Yes, it’s true now,
We commune the Reformed.
No forced union
Made us bow or conform,
Just a warm and fuzzy feeling.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
We have women in black,
Now there’s no turning back
To the hang-ups of dead white guys.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
You can set yourself free
From dead orthodoxy,
You can do whatever you please.
Luth’ran,
Won’t you please come along
To the Elca,
Where’s there’s no right or wrong.
In the Elca,
Heretics can belong,
They can teach at seminary.
“Luth’ran,”
But our fingers were crossed,
All our doctrine
Has been totally lost.
All that’s Luth’ran
Is what we have embossed
On our cards and stationery.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
We have women in black,
Now there’s no turning back
To the hang-ups of dead white guys.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
You can set yourself free
From dead orthodoxy,
You can do whatever you please.
Elca,
Where it’s very uncouth
And unwelcome
To say you have the truth
And where seldom
Is a word ever heard
To discourage sin or error.
Elca,
Where it’s all shades of gray,
I said, Elca,
Where it’s hip to be gay.
Our umbrella
Is as big as a tent,
There’s no need for you to repent.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
We have women in black,
Now there’s no turning back
To the hang-ups of dead white guys.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It’s fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
You can set yourself free
From dead orthodoxy,
You can do whatever you please. . . .
Excellent! Did you write that yourself?
Yes, and a long time ago, maybe around 2000 or 2001.
I think you ought to submit it to these guys so they could make a video of it-
