My mom has a VHS of Song of the South. She had to get it from the UK
If Obama had a cat and a mouse, they would look like blacked-up Tom and Jerry.
We had this in the libraries too. The Chicago Public library listed 15 copies of “Little Black Sambo” as recently as 1998, but not a single copy was to be found (I was doing some research). Seems books certain people do not like are intentionaly lost, stolen, destroyed, or simply thrown away. (”Our Bodies, Ourselves” is another book frequently vandalized. Seems both liberals and extreme conservatives or fundamentalists engage in similar practices)
Yes, it is the censoring of history. Imagine all Holocaust photos disappearing, or all pro eugenics data destroyed, or all acts of a corrupt administartion denied. Oh wait.
By the way, they do the same with Bugs Bunny and you can be certain we will never see a re-release of “Song of the South.”
Once upon a time, they re-edited some of the mammy two-shoes episodes to replace her with an Irish housemaid. Sometimes the transfers mixed up the voices/footage.
Unintentional hilarity ensued.
Just get it on BitTorrent. Don’t pay these swines for their Stalinist censorship.
lol
I’ve got many of the cartoons on laserdisc. Jerry Beck ran into some resistance from MGM (before the MGM-Turner and WB libraries were merged in a giant corporate monopoly) but his releases were on the order of 1000 high end boxed sets being sold to adults with some discs (at least in the Loony Tunes cartoons sets) being specifically labeled “politically incorrect”.
I don’t know if Tex Avery’s Uncle Tom’s Cabana ever made it to US DVD (it was on laserdisc).
I’ve got a whole CD of politically-incorrect Disney cartoons around here somewhere from the WWII era full of “Nips” and “Japs” and such.
“Is you is or is you ain’t my baby..”!
I was going to bring up how Disney blocked out the Song of the South.
I believe the problem was that the slaves in that movie were treated well and that isn’t the agenda.

You admit that on the interwebz???
Your mom can expect a knock on the door from the IRS any moment now (the fact you use a FR pseudonym is easily wiped aside by the NSA).
