i work from wells fargo. not on the bank side however...

but i know from experience you don’t even need to log into wf website to initiate transactions.

if i have your bank account number, it’s very easy for me (or anyone) to log into, say ING-direct (Capitol one now), and initiate transfer of funds from your account to ING-direct.

I’m a 45 year Wells Fargo account(s) holder and never had a problem in all of those years, not one.

Did they accidentally put ten million dollars into my account? I forgive them

Yeah me too! Only at 36 years with WFB. I was just looking for a confirmation of “Bank Error” and reverse transaction and be done with. But they are insisting to close my accounts due to fraudulent activity when I suspect this is just a glitch. Maybe isolated incident, but maybe more and is reason I decided to blog it. Looks like though in order for me to reverse transaction I need to close all my accounts and file fraud case.

The only thing they have asked us to do is cancel our cards and then get new ones.
Once a long time ago, there was a fraud, issue on our credit card, so they closed the account and opened a new one and transferred the correct balance to the new account.
Is this a business account or personal?
I don’t know what difference it would make.
They have been really good about monetizing weird transactions and I think go to great lengths to correct fraud or just a mistake.

Understood.
A couple years back I had an account with Middletown Savings Bank, started seeing withdrawals at fifty bucks a pop every week.
Long story short, they allowed an unauthorized third party access to my account, tried to BS me over it until I threatened legal action.
I closed the account.
They then allowed the third party to withdraw $500 from a closed account.

We dropped Wells Fargo a few months ago. Sorry we didn’t do it sooner.

Well Fargo is the worst bank on the planet. Their policies are ridiculous.

Which of you Freepers have a Wells Fargo account? If not, what banks do you bank at?

First National Bank of Nigeria... which means we are in luck and you can just waltz into your local branch and withdraw whatever you need. Tell them I sent you... my password is 12345 (same as my luggage combination).

One of my favorites is an insurance company that has an ad on the radio for an app where you can list all the information about your valuables. You don’t even need to be a customer to use it. Store that one in an NSA server in Utah and maybe if the IRS ever wanted a wealth picture of you they could pull your bank records, your W2s, your Zillow report, your credit card files, credit rating, and your insurable wealth report to perhaps figure out if your a little light on the vig for the past decade or so.

On July 2nd, two transactions were made from my Wells Fargo account — one for $1,400, the other for $25 - both to United Airlines. I caught it immediately but had to cancel my account numbers and start with new ones — a few weeks later, I received a letter stating that the Wells Fargo fraud department decided that I had made the transaction myself since my explanation was “not satisfactory.” (!!).

It took a lot of time and hassle to explain to Wells Fargo that I did not buy tickets from United Airlines, I did not give my card to anyone or purchase tickets for someone else — I had to explain myself repeatedly to several different people over a number of days. It took a lot of time and every ounce of patience I had to straighten this out.

How anyone got my name, account number and the expiration date is beyond me — and WHY United accepted the bogus transaction for such a LARGE amount baffles me. Seems when I make travel plans I have to have the security # on the card and give my home zip code and the last four digits of my SSN.

I hope United Airlines EATS IT — Wells Fargo too — will cancel account and switch everything to Credit Union.
