My grandfather survived the kamikaze attack on the Bunker Hill during Okinawa. Hundreds of his shipmates did not. Because of the A-bomb, the Bunker Hill never had to return to combat duty for the invasion of the Japanese Home Islands. In other words, he quite possibly could have been killed otherwise.

Screw the peacenik revisionists.

My dad’s battalion was set to participate in the invasion of Japan. If not for the bomb, he probably would have been killed. Casualties would have been extremely high - on both sides. I doubt that I would be here today.

Yep, the peaceniks can stick it where the sun don’t shine.

My grandfather was slated to be a forward artillery spotter for the invasion. I am very sure I would not exist without the Bomb.

My Dad was steaming for the Japanese home islands aboard the carrier Ticonderoga. They were going to use navy personnel as infantry and he had been told he would be carrying a BAR because he was big and strong. If you remember, they expected to take a million casualties in that invasion. I likely am here and alive today BECAUSE they used the bomb. There are NO apologies in order.

My uncle flew near Nagasaki a day or two after the bombing there. He said he was certain the war was going to be over very soon. He flew in PBYs or PBMs at the time from Korea I believe. He added, he did not care a whit about what happened.

the battle for Okinawa killed more people than both a-bombs combined.
