My dad’s battalion was set to participate in the invasion of Japan. If not for the bomb, he probably would have been killed. Casualties would have been extremely high - on both sides. I doubt that I would be here today.

My grandfather was slated to be a forward artillery spotter for the invasion. I am very sure I would not exist without the Bomb.
My Dad was steaming for the Japanese home islands aboard the carrier Ticonderoga. They were going to use navy personnel as infantry and he had been told he would be carrying a BAR because he was big and strong. If you remember, they expected to take a million casualties in that invasion. I likely am here and alive today BECAUSE they used the bomb. There are NO apologies in order.
My uncle flew near Nagasaki a day or two after the bombing there. He said he was certain the war was going to be over very soon. He flew in PBYs or PBMs at the time from Korea I believe. He added, he did not care a whit about what happened.
