fwdude, you appear to be one of those who consider acceptance of science to be rejection of God. And there are those who would try to use science to disprove God. But without God, all of those wonders had to spring from nothing.

And, given the level of education in those days, a thousand was understandable, but millions or billions were not a concept easily grasped. The scriptures were written to be understood.
