Stopped watching the show after Baker (everybody has their favorite). Red Dwarf was always more to my taste and it took a total plunge into the embarrassing when they tried to revive it with the same actors who had grown old, fat, and unfunny. The Doctor’s periodic regeneration was a genuine stroke of genius.

I love Red Dwarf. You know they reformed last year for a new series?.

He was a in a gem of a film called Local Hero years ago. Looks just like a cousin of mine.

No, I was not aware of that. I'll try to see if the new version is on the BBC America radar. Otherwise it might take ten years to make it across the pond.

As you can probably tell since there's an entire Red Dwarf ping list lots of American Freepers love the original series too, even if they've never actually experienced Prawn Vindaloo mouth incineration. There are lots of old BBC shows that never made it over here but should have. Rab C. Nesbitt, Some Mothers Do Have 'em, Bottom, just to name a few.

Some of those might be non-BBC productions. I know BBC Scotland produced Rab.

McCoy was a great choice for the Doctor, but he was unlucky to take over when the show was in a tailspin. Senior members of the BBC wanted it off the air and stripped it of staff and budget. He had a good Dalek episode though.

Colin Baker gets a bad rap... It wasn’t so much him, as it was the internals at the BBC and the desire to kill it off.

Try some of the Big Finish audio plays for the 6th Doctor for a better view of what could have been. He had potential. Same for McCoy, really...

I didn't mind Colin Baker, that's actually when I got into Dr. Who, so I guess it's more nostalgic. I liked his more brutal character. I found it fascinating. Also, we get the Valeyard character from the trial episode, which most fans suspect to be John Huston's "Doctor" incarnation.

Although, watching Tom Baker on tapes when I worked for Public Television station during late night certainly made me realize why people liked him.
