This is old news. The US Supreme Court ruled back in the 80's that police have no responsibility to protect you.

The Warren opinion is an excellent round up and summary but it is not by the U.S. Supreme Court; it is by the Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia, which is the municipal court of D.C. It had a significant dissent.
