Do you have a good general “rule-of-thumb” amount of magnesium one should take daily? Is it still supposed to be half of the amount of calcium you take? I think the government RDA or RDI is usually pretty low.

Yes. The RDA is 425 mg/day but you should double that. You need to specifically look at the label so you know how many tabs or capsules equal how much mag. If you buy Metagenics brand mag glycinate, take 6-8/day. This is based on 2 tabs equaling about 200 mg.

Be sure that you gradually up your mag doses as any fast increase can cause diarrhea but ultimately you want to level off at about 800 mg. At least until you build your stores up.

Mag is water soluable so you will absorb very little each time and will pee out the rest but ultimately you will absorb it and it’s stored in your bones teeth and tissues.

Mag will also keep your teeth from falling out. When you are deficient in mag your body pulls it from the stores hence weakening of bones and shrinking of teeth.
