Earlier this month, word hit the Internet that an Air Force unit training to fly Americas most advanced military aircraft are wearing a patch inspired by the television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Now the Air Force has confirmed it: bronies are flying jets.
We train world-class pilots who will go on to defend our great nation, 1st Lt. Tom Barger, a public affairs officer at Vance Air Force Base in Oklahoma, tells War is Boring. Fostering camaraderie, morale and unity on a regular basis and through small means like a tastefully humorous patch enhances our ability to complete the mission when working as a team is essential.
The pink and purple patch first spotted by My Little Pony fan site Equestria Daily and worn by 24 flight students from Joint Undergraduate Specialized Pilot Class 14-05, references the cable cartoon show about a team of magical ponies. Although criticized by some as a cynical bid to get children to purchase plastic pony products (its a reboot from the 1980s), the show which airs weekday afternoons on the Hub Network became a cult phenomenon thats now spread to the armed forces.

Not the first Brony patch...
I was stationed at that base for 7 of my 10 enlisted years. There were some very creative class patches over the years. Whatever was popular at the time was made Into a patch. That one is rather boring - my opinion of course.
My favorite class patch was from 2004 or so - if I recall correctly. It had the class number and whatnot with a picture of a pool ball set and a triangle. in Latin it said “all balls and a rack” I doubt that would pass anymore in the kinder and touchier Air Force

Where’s the “Hello, Kitty !” squadron ?

Stay safe...
SR-71s were black. That is, the ones they let the world see. The *real* ones were pink.
I grew up about 35 miles from Vance. From my childhood, I can remember watching B-25s doing touch & goes at the auxiliary field out near the Great Salt Plains.
Yeah, that was a while ago...
I’m pretty sure they still use the Kegelman aux field out there. We did back in 1990.
At Faggot AFB, San Francisco.
The current acting Secretary of Air Force and his partner say this is very very sweet and he could just kiss them all as a reward.
If Rainbow Dash were around, she would lead a coups d'etat that would get rid of all the Commie scum . . . and of fluoridated water as well! (She's very right wing, you know.)
Rainbow Dash knows the Commies are fluoridating the water!
