#18 Dog crap in the refrigerator is also cool.
Does that mean that “British monarchy” is cool dog crap?
Mr. Spock: “Logical”!
No, I like it, as well. (But I just heard my Irish ancestors turn in their graves.)
And the real irony (well, I’m never sure if I’m using that word right!) is that his daughter, Elizabeth, went on to be one of the greatest of English monarchs.
...but Brooke Baldwin is an American stationed in Atlanta..
**Ha Ha! Then she is a total idiot. Thanks for the clarification.
Oddly, Anne Boleyn gave birth to one of the most significant rulers in English history, whose very name defines an era.
Sounds really stupid, but the Brits dont use brilliant in quite the same way that we do.
***
But another poster said that this Brooke twit is an American posted to Atlanta.
ridiculous. They should abolish this sideshow
In Brit speak, brilliant means wonderful.
Yes, this a usage thing and not a crack about her being able to have a son first go around.
If you watch enough “Top Gear” you soon learn that to Brits, “brilliant” means fantastic, great, wonderful, excellent, etc. As in “that’s a brilliant piece of kit” where as we would say “that’s a great piece of equipment.”
That's the way they did it in the old days...well, not in a tent anyway, but with plenty of witnesses.
True, but he did have at least two or three sons with his first queen, Catherine of Aragon. Unfortunately, they were either stillborn or died soon after birth. The current theory is that she suffered toxemia or her and Henry's RH levels were contrary. I think she had a total of six or seven pregnancies with only one surviving child, that being Mary, later Bloody Mary.
I think it's all cool as well. I'm a history nut. I especially love Medieval history, but also enjoy learning about British traditions that have continued for centuries.
Dog crap in the refrigerator is also cool. Does that mean "British monarchy is cool dog crap"
Your logic is flawed, I believe. "Dog crap" and "British monarchy" are two independent subsets of things that are cool.
By your logic:
1. Monday is a weekday
2. Tuesday is a weekday.
3. Therefore, Monday is Tuesday.
<^..^>
...SCIENTIFIC FACT that the father is solely responsible for the sex of the child...
Wrong.
While the male does indeed produce androsperm (i.e. Y-Chromosome-carrying sperm) and gynosperm (X-carrying); the biochemical environment of the female’s reproductive tract is what is ultimately responsible for whether androsperm or gynosperm are more likely to reach the ovum. It’s a combination of how immune-suppressed her tract is, as well as the overall pH. Higher pH favours androsperm, and lower pH favours gynosperm.
I really like British history. The continuity really adds to the fascination of it all.
You got it, LOL!
I’m currently reading ‘Bloody Mary’ by Carolly Erickson.
Second time I’ve read it, excellent book.
I’ve seen that one but I’ve never read it. I think I will. Thanks for the recommendation.
Interesting, and I did not know that.
Just because something is “logical” doesn’t mean that it is the truth, accurate, or even rational.
If I eat at Ruby Tuesday’s on a Monday, it is still “Tuesday”, isn’t it?
