You are absolutely correct. How people see things is often a manifestation of their own minds.
But that only raises the question: what was it they saw which was so outside of ordinary experience that their minds had to explain it to them with more familiar imagery?
That’s pretty much true especially if you are extremely tired.
You see what you want to see, or worse you can see what you really don’t want to see.

Agree...we see the world via our brains...our eyes relay the messages...but our imagination can distort images, add to them, and even deny them.
There’s also the “mob” mentality....if I see it they will see it.
