I misstated the NFL 3 year rule..thanks...care to comment about the discrepancy between the NFL and NBA policies?
The NBA didn’t really understand the point of the NFL rule. The NCAA was getting upset that the NBA was grabbing players straight out of high school, big star players like Kobe and LeBron, players that were going to make the NCAA a lot of money, so they copied the NFL rule. But having done it right after the NFL got sued they went for only one year, to avoid lawsuits. They thought the whole point was to get the star players in college for a bit. But the NFL rule isn’t for that. It’s to give the players another layer, more time to grow physically and mentally, get stronger, play in a faster game than high school with a longer season, but not as fast or long as the NFL. It’s actually a very self serving, they figured out that 18 year olds aren’t ready for the NFL, not for the speed of the game, not for the physical intensity of the game, not ready for the money, and not ready for the “side benefits”. The rule is as much about avoiding Greg Oden as it is Maurice Clarett, but the NBA thinks it’s just to appease the NCAA.
