Do you know that there was once published a map telling visitors what areas of DC to avoid, back when Lincoln was inaugurated?
I could have used a DC map like that ten years ago. Ended up in some store where everyone was black and they were giving me looks. Took me three tries to get a cashier that didn’t walk away when I got to the checkout.
I took it three ways. 1) To be more careful of where I went, 2) racism is still alive, and 3) perhaps a bit of what it was like to be black 60 years ago.
